From the poem, “Cain Cries Out”:

“…Then fire consumed
the dead, but left
the fruit to rot and flies.

Must I sacrifice
what little I love? The smell
of soil as I dig, the shade
of the fruit trees, the moment
the green tendrils climb
out of the ground—…”

Jennifer Lynn Krohn was born and raised in Albuquerque, where she is currently earning her MFA from the University of New Mexico. She started writing poetry and fiction during high school after her brief foray into veterinary medicine. Jennifer has published in the Weekly Alibi and has work forthcoming in the fall 2010 issue of The Saranac Review. She was the poetry editor for Blue Mesa Review’s twenty third issue.
