Carrie Cutler

From the poem “Intimacy”:

“…the woman choked, low and raspy

it never occurred to me not to dance
for the dumb tumble of luck
I trusted nothing but my back pocket

there came a still moment–

we were closer than lovers who part,
sure of their bodies

he reached for me and I for the knife
like a play worn out, I knew I would reach inside him

and rope us together: we understand this mauled world…”
