Janie Oakes

Nice making words flutter

around my mouth, ears

I steal a look around

make sure the spider

is still in sight

I wouldn’t kill it

just want to know where it is

Janie Oakes is a storyteller and mentor, a lover of words, memory, land and image. She has “made meaning” in varied forms, from autobiographical monologue to poetry, collage to improvisation; land sculpture to authentic movement.  She walks the ridges and arroyos with her dog, Audrey, observing the holy. Her poems have appeared in The New Mexico Poetry Review and Adobe Walls, and her first collection of poems, Creased, was self published in 2010. She has participated in readings in Santa Fe and has readings scheduled in California and Oklahoma in the Spring and Fall, 2011. [Photo by Julie Dean]
