OUTSpoken at PrideFest Saturday June 29th
On Saturday, June 29th @ PrideFest EXPO New Mexico, you will have a chance to hear topnotch poetry from participants in the OUTSpoken series, read in the open mic, catch a cameo from the Poet Laureate Hakim Bellamy, enjoy a featured performance from visiting slam poet Jomar Valentine, as well as cheer for the championship slam competition for OUTSpoken poet of the year! Poets competing in the slam earned their spot in the championship slam by earning first, second, or third place, at a quarterly OUTSpoken Poetry Slam event held in October, February, and April. Events are hosted by Erin Northern and will take place at PrideFest from 12:30-4:30pm in the Indian Arts Gallery Building. 12:30 – 1:00 Open-Mic
1:00-2:00 Local Features: Aaron Ambrose, Erin Northern, Frida Moreno, Matthew Brown, Mary Oishi & more!
2:00 – 3:30 Championship Slam with sacrificial poem by Hakim Bellamy, Albuquerque’s Poet Laureate and interlude set by *feature poet Jomar Valentin of Austin Texas between rounds . Competing poets include: Eva Crespin, Jak, Kira Pelowitz, Leilani Nonies, Lilly Lawrence-Metzler, Madeline Reyes, Maxine Peske & Mimi Leland.
**The open-mic is open to ALL and each poet will have 5 minutes.
**Topics for poetry are OPEN for both the open-mic and the slam.
OUTSpoken’s Queer Poetry Slam and Open-Mic’s mission is to create a dynamic and safe space for queer performance artists to develop and share their creative voices publicly through collaboration with each other, establishing bonds with national queer communities and their straight allies, and promoting outreach and education to Albuquerque’s artistic and local community.
