Events, Events, Events, Events: Say it four times

Wow!!! A tremendous weekend is coming up. If you don’t know about the Albuquerque Cultural Conference, let me get you into the loop. John Crawford of West End Press brings together this great sort of think-tank annually and poets are coming in from around the country this year, including Cherrie Moraga, Robert Bohm, Lorna Dee Cervantes, Bryce Milligan, Gerald McCarthy, Sasha Pimentel Chacon, Anya Achtenberg, Michael Henson and more. The readers I just named are not only participating in two days of weekend panel discussions (for schedule see this link), but they are also part of a fabulous kick-off performance on Friday night August 26th that I’m honored to be hosting. It’s a kind of cornucopia of a reading. Aside from everyone I just named, many powerful locals with national reputations will also read: Margaret Randall, Jessica Helen Lopez, Jason Yurcic, Mary Oishi (with Zenobia on piano), as well as Hakim Bellamy and Carlos Contreras. PHEW WOW WILD RIDE OF ONE NIGHT.

To Have or Have Not

Friday August 26th

Showtime 7:00 pm

@ Outpost Performance Space (210 Yale SE)

15 Stunning Poets and Musicians Perform in an Event

Hosted by Lisa Gill and Nasser Khan

$10

And that’s just the introduction to the whole conference which promises panel discussions lead by Margaret Randall and Brian Hendrickson and local favorite Allen Cooper plus many many more. I’m even leading a panel on resilience myself, featuring co-moderator Richard Malcolm, and presenters Ann Hunkins, Teresa Blankmeyer Burke, Jason Yurcic, Dr. Ben Daitz, and Tina Carlson. More on that soon: I’M WHOLLY PSYCHED TO HEAR THESE PEOPLE.

PS. There is a day price for the conference, but you can also choose to just attend one panel for $5. Feel free to donate more…

And, I can barely keep up, there’s more events this weekend.

The Roost collaboration with Local Poets Guild continues this Sunday 7:30 Pm August 28th with the Michael Vlatkovich Trio and poet Mark Weber.

And Sunday morning, in a crossover event with the conference, Appalachian author Mike Henson will be performing alongside Shostakovich and more at Church of Beethoven (10:30 AM at the Kosmos. see link)

And then Monday, as I said in my previous blog post, Tracey Dahl deserves our full attention at the East of Edith Open mic.

WOOT WOOT, good good literary times.
