Last week, Local Poets Guild featured a nonviolence workshop led by LA poet/activist Peggy Dobreer. Next up, in May is a writing-to-heal workshop led by Michelle Otero. It’ll take place May 22nd from 6-9 at the community room at my building. If you’re interested, RSVP to localpoetsguild [at] yahoo [dot] com and I’ll send you directions/instructions. We’ll be asking for a $5 donation to help fund the next instructor, but NO ONE WILL BE TURNED AWAY. This workshop builds on the premise that writing is transformative, rejuvenating, and actually good for your physical health, including blood pressure and immune system. Plus fun! Local Poets Guild is committed to these two writing endeavors as community-nurturing opportunities, so we’ll be alternating nonviolence and writing to heal, one each month. In June, expect another nonviolence workshop. The two dovetail into each other nicely and we hope you’ll join us for the journey.—LG
